Ryan's Beggars Bush, Haddington Rd, Dublin 4

Ryan’s of Beggars Bush is situated on Haddington Road, Dublin which has been a site of a pub since 1803. The pub was taken over by Thomas Ryan in 1913, and has been run by the Ryan family ever since.

It was acquired by the OPW in 1967 for a period but leased back to the Ryan family. It was bought back by the Ryan Family in 1988 and the building was restored and rebuilt into the pub you see today. Interestingly situated adjacent to a barracks, as a result Ryans is in an area which has been site to a number of important events in Irish History.

The barracks was built as a British Army Barracks in 1827. A battle in 1916 was fought at the crossroads of Haddington Rd and Northumberland Rd, very close to the pub. You could spot bullet holes in the facade of the pub until the restoration in 1988 - It was the first barracks to be haded over to the new Provisional Irish Government and Michael Collins in January 1922 - Robert Erskine Childers was executed there in November 1922.
